During music lessons today,
I tried to embark on "Project: How to Yodel"
with my 1.1 kiddies
It was damn hilarous
if only you were there to witness it
This is what we did:
T*cher: Class, today we're gonna learn how to Yodel
(handful of excited boys *cheer*yodel-eh*)
T*cher: Who knows what's Yodeling all about?
(handful of excited boys *yodel-eh-hee*)
T*cher: Alright. Who can tell me the country in which Yodeling originated?
Boy1: America?
Boy2: Switzerland?
T*cher: Yes! Very good. Yodeling is an art which originated from the Swiss Alps. Did you know it started out as a means of communication? People living in the Alps stayed a peak away from each other and they had to "Yodel" to get each other's attention.
(obscure *yodels* surface)
Boy3: Cher, why they don't just call each other on the phone?
T*cher: In those days, there were no phones. (hor?!) Ok, now let's listen to some Yodeling.
I played them Home on the Range the DVD, where the villian puts cows to sleep by Yodeling to them.
Then we attempted to sing The Lonely Goatherd from The Sound of Music Soundtrack. In the end, i ended up singing the song to them, while they stared in wide-eyed entertainment.
Boy 1: Cher, we cannot yodel lah
T*cher: Why? You just have to sing in falsetto when you reach the high notes. Here i am, trying to train you to be budding Singapore Idols and Superstar, and you guys are not trying!
Girl 1: Cher, you go and join Superstar lah! We support you!
*Rolls eyes*
T*cher: Ok class, let's do some Yodeling exercises. Repeat after me. Ohlde-lee-ee-oh.
Obscure few: Ohlde-lee-ee-oh
T*cher: Ohlde-lay-ee-oh
Obscure few: Ohde-lay-ee-oh
T*cher: Good. Go home and practice in your shower everyday. Next week, i'm going to make all of you stand in front of the class and yodel!
*evil grin*
Yodeling ended up a session of wolf-cries mimicking. I was breathless at the end of it all.
I heard some Yodeling outside the staff room today... haha
Maybe they really got the idea that it was some form of communication... hmm...
YOdel-away!
(Switzerland and Austria should really thank me for passing on their age-old tradition)
