A Post-Mortem: Villa Bali, Evolution and the Almighty God

This is a must-read if you are one of those people yearning for "scoops" on my otherwise-boring life. (I am a teacher whaddya expect?!)

Ok. It's gonna be a lengthy one, so i shall not banter on.

My outing with Say was off to a terrible start when i discovered it was 4:30pm and i was still chatting to the girls online, taunting :B to meet up with us that night. I had less than half an hour to change and get ready cos we agreed to meet at 5:00pm. By the time i reached Jurong East (where we were supposed to meet), it was already 5:20pm. For the first time in my life, i witnessed what they mean by "A hungry man is an angry man". Say totally flared up at me for leaving him "hanging" 20 mins with nothing to do. He grumbled and groused all the way from Jurong East to Buona Vista, (Sorry if i make you sound like a petty undesirable fellow, there's no other way to get back at you for exclaiming about my non-existent wedgie in public) making me feel damn bad about being late. Anyway, we settled for dinner at Ikea (Say claims i should stop copying those pseudo accented pronunciations of saying "Ee-kay-uh" but rather in Scandinavian, it is simply "Ee-Key-uh". Stupid radio ads! or Say! Get me a swede to clarify lah!)
Dinner was yummy, i settled for swedish meatballs (15 of them) while Say had a big feast of steak and chicken wings. He's a carnivore lah, don't know where all that meat he eats go to cos he's got such a tiny frame. Conversation over dinner nothing note-worthy. Omit.
After dinner, i got a Froggie for my darling.

We had planned to go check out Jazz@Southbridge, but eventually Say suggested we check out Villa Bali. Courtesy of phonecall from another of his "bastardy" friend John from Germany last seen in wallpaper of Say's mobile hugging a T-Rex.

Villa Bali is a little secret haven tucked away in a corner of Singapore at Gillman Village, just beside my college. From the main road, you have to cross a pink metallic bridge (it's old and rusty) to get to it. Across the bridge, you feel like you are entering another world, thus leaving your worldly troubles behind. I'm dead serious. It's a beautiful place.

It's like one of those well-kept secrets which you deliberate about sharing with people, for fear of it losing it's mystical charm. Yet, at the same time you want to announce of its existence to the world so that everyone can appreciate its beauty. That's why i wanted you to come down so badly, Mich and :B. It's expat heaven too, :B.
The staff at Villa Bali are extremely young (and i saw some familiar faces, one being Darlz' mum's friend's daughter)
We chilled the night out, I ordered a Frozen Margarita (again! it's a girl's drink lah!) and Say a Grasshopper (which tasted awfully like cough syrup) YIKES!
I'm glad even though it was our 3rd outing, we already felt pretty comfortable with each other, stoning in silence or having the occasional conversation.

You see the reason why i think going out with Say is enjoyable is because he is knowledgeable, though a tad too opinionated.

In his bid to illustrate a conundrum, Say posed the following question:
Say: Do you believe that your God is almighty? As the bible states so ?
Me: Yes.
Say: Well, if your God is so almighty, do you think he can create a boulder so heavy he'll not be able to lift?
Me: Err... Yes.
Say: Then he's not that almighty after all, isn't he?

Well, it's a conundrum alright. But like i said, you are making an assumption on God based on just one question. Simply put it, it's like the paradox of life. Why should we live if we are going to die? There are other factors to consider isn't it? If i assume that life is all about dying, then there's no point living. Just as if we assume that God is not the almighty, because of his creating a boulder he can't carry. Then we are missing the point. I don't know if it draws a parallel, but one question always leads to another, it doesn't end there.

Say believes that humans evolved from Apes, i.e. Darwinism. Who else to argue this better than an aspiring biologist who subscribes to the National Geographic? Although i don't know my facts very well, but until scientifically proven, I'd rather believe that I am uniquely made by God who breathed life into me. I definitely DO NOT think i evolved from a hairy primate. Well then again, it explains why i thought you resembled the Lemur so much. HAHA ... (must get back at you again for the wedgie)

Lest you think that you bore me with your scientific terms and philosophical theories, let me just say this now, i'm not. Do not "anthropomorphicise" your thoughts on me (i wanna be a kitty meow!)

Say showed me a picture of the Fossa, the resident predator of Madagascar, from his National Geographic.

I learnt much in just one day.

Oh before i end off, one of the waitresses as i mentioned turned out to be someone i've dined with at the same table before. She acknowledged me as "The Girlfriend" which i find absolutely demeaning. I was given one strange look cos i was hanging out with Say instead of Darlz. Now it looks more like a rendezvous, doesn't it? At least befittng the term "Scoop". Oh should i even mention the "Lovebite" experiment and the digusting way he sucked a raspberry off a potato?

It was a pretty decent outing i'd say. Well, that's as much of a scoop you can get.
