*shall henceforth be a metaphorical expression for Meritus*
Stepped into the catacomb early this morning
I'm getting better at finding my way around to HR
it was kinda like a role reversal seeing jess the poly girl
dressed in executive wear while i wait to collect my uniform
I got dressed in the yukkie red cheongsam
Whoo hoo .. cabaret fitting man!
Couldn't get use to my reflection in the mirror
Never mind, it's the job that matters
Always hated first days
Especially having to memorise the name of every person i've been introduced to
I met Mr Tay, my duty manager at MEC
who was the umpteenth person to ask
what a grad like me was doing at the catacomb
I must have been too obvious with my certain lack of enthusiasm
He was prompted to say "Oh... i'm not the first person to ask this question"
Smiled my megawatt smile and whipped out my ten year series answer "Oh... i'm at the discovery stage, want to try out the hospitality industry"
Was kinda touched when he told me "learn as much as you can here, it's a good place to learn new stuff and there are many things to learn here... but with your academic credentials, you can move up to other positions after you gain some experience"
"Wow.." nice...
Was given a tour around the catacomb by Mr Tay
and introduced to the rest of the managers
They all knew me as the grad
Mr Tay gave me my orientation timetable for the next two weeks
Read something like this
15 Jun Meritus Club 0900-1700
16 Jun Business Centre 0900-1700
17 Jun Telecommunication 1000-1800
18/19 Jun Room Reservation 1000-1800
20 Jun Concierge/ Bell Captain 1000-1800
21 Jun Concierge/ Bell Captain 1200-2000

23 Jun Housekeeping 0800-1600
24/25 Jun Hotel Orientation 0900-1800
26 Jun - 11 Jul Reception/ Cahier
12 Jul MEC again!!! yay!
Seems like it's going to be a tough 2 week
though today was really a major stand around session
Got to know some new colleagues and a few interns
Mikka from Finland has the nicest blue eyes
and a real deep voice
He was really nice, and had been on an internship since last month
Managed to talk abit
Also there was Serena and Georgiana who both said i look young
*grinz*
Was told of horror stories in reservations
Some girl had to fork out 22K for some major blooper she made
Why do people in the service industries get paid so little?
It's a tiring job really
but when you see the smiles of the guests
likes of the little girl who ran along the corridor
when i said "Hi, where are you going off to?"
and she gave me the sweetest smile ever
glad that someone had noticed her in the big catacomb
