Before i end my teaching career with a deep sense of under-achievement
I would faithfully chronicle my teaching life on my nearly defunct blog
so that i can actually look back to these days of working impossible hours
and leave behind a trail of beatiful memories accompanied
by a few lines on this weathered face
What sparked off was the NDP concert we had yesterday
08-08-07 in the school hall
though i wasn't the main man helming the entire production
it was definitely a great burden on the shoulders
firstly, it started off with being informed that i was to lead
community singing on stage
then, news came that i had to help CK bring the mini concert into the hall
and we were merely 3 weeks away from the day
Hence began weeks of preparation
talent scouting (the usual talent pool) to put up performances for the concert.
First group i approached was this grungy rocking group Final Advent
as recommended by Mr Low
Well they were in the rock band course ... so i thought why not
do a rock version of Home?
It was fun arranging, discussing music with em... though most of the time
i had to compromise with their exquisitely acquired musical taste for noise.
Then i arranged this other item, Dick Lee's Rasa Sayang
that was absolutely fun to do.
Especially towards the end of the concert when the boys
added their dance moves
Training the girls to do the A cappella was challenging
as i had to repeatedly plug my ears into the youtube clip
Finally i managed to get another two items going..
and the show was all set to roll
Night before NDP... was up till 4 doing slides for the bloody sing-a-long
Had butterflies in the stomach when i woke up for school
D kindly sent me to school earlier than usual
and i heard the jamming sounds of Final Advent
I couldn't wait for the day to unfold
surprisingly i wasn't too nervous
despite that it was my first time on stage in front of the entire school
Insecurities flooded me for a bit
was wondering if i would hear boos when i was singing
Finally when it was time for the concert
there was a sudden surge of adrenalin
and before i knew it i was starting off the concert with a big bang
doing Home with the gang
It was beautiful though i'm sure that's not exactly the adjective most people would call it
Noise... would be a better word i think
HAHA
Nevertheless, it was perfect.
Then the rest of the items went on as smoothly,
except for a few wrong chords on the song Will You
Then it was the quiz segment
It was fun giving away light sticks to the students
followed by the sing-a-long
The school was kinda dead
but generally the atmosphere was high
It's kinda weird i know the above statement contradicts
but i guess you gotta be there to feel it for yourself
I am happy that it's finally over
and even happier when i heard and read that many enjoyed it
Especially an upper sec student who said it was the best she had enjoyed in her 4 years
Wow. That's the highest praise to receive
though not entirely by me
Sigh... i guess life resumes
for better or worse?
We'll see
