OverHeard

Mother: Do you have many homework?
Daughter: (Whining) I dunno how to spell "Diet"...
Mother: I thought you learn before? How come you dunno?
Daughter: I cannot remember...
Mother: That's all ah... that's your homework, any other homework?

it's Friday, i thought
give her a break

have you paused lately?
to hear the sound of rain
pattering against the window pane
to smell the freshness
of the new born soil
to see the world
in all its untainted glory

the fault is not yours
you never had a childhood
but shoulders ladened with
a haversack of books
those pretty eyelashes
hidden by a thick frame
your bespectacled face
has defined you

i pause to think

would i be you?
i have been
that little girl
you had been

Have we unknowingly become the monsters
we swore not to become?
